What if my child misses school?

On the day of an absence, parents/guardians should notify the Academy at (928) 684-6717 between 7:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. State law requires that you tell us the reason for the student’s absence. We will not tolerate a student “ditching” school.

  • We allow four (4) absences per six-week session. Any absence beyond that (excused or not) will be grounds for dismissal from Wickenburg Virtual Academy. You may appeal for an exception if there are unusual, verifiable circumstances. Our Administrator will personally review the appeal.
  • We will not allow students with more than eight (8) absences to make an appeal.
  • Re-enrollment will be contingent upon the availability of space in the next six-week block.

What should my child do if he/she is tardy to school?

Punctuality is a valued work standard and students arriving late causes a constant upheaval and disruption in the classroom. For that reason, we have a very strict policy regarding tardies. We ask that parents/guardians call or send a written note if the student will be tardy. If the student is more than one hour late, we will consider him/her absent regardless of the circumstances.

  • We allow the student three (3) tardies.
  • Three (3) unexcused tardies makes one (1) absence.
  • We will record any tardy that exceeds the three (3) excusable circumstances as unexcused.

What procedure should I follow if my child has an appointment during school hours?

We will not allow students to leave campus during assigned school hours unless they obtain written permission from their teachers and parents/guardians. Please call the office or send a note to excuse your child.
